Due to an increase in their activities they are looking to expand their growing department at their key location in Tanzania. You will be responsible for all cultivation activities for the various crops during the entire production cycle, from germination to seed and cutting production. At present the crops are Cyclamen, Primula and Campanula. You will be responsible for all duties associated with care of the plants, fertilization and crop protection. You will be responsible for correct climate control and making the correct settings in the climate computer ongoing. You will need to maintain close contact with the Dutch colleagues when drafting and improving the various protocols, including the cultivation protocols. In this, you fulfil the role of trainer and coach for the other employees in the department. You will implement improvements and embed these in the daily work and are constantly looking for ways to improve the results by optimising the cultivation and cultivation methods. At a local level you are part of the management team and you work together with your management team colleagues. From there the reporting structure is into the Foreign Locations Manager in the Netherlands
What is the primary objective of the role?
The objective of the position is to improve the results by improving the cultivation and cultivation methods through adding and embedding knowledge in the organisation.
Who are we looking for?
You are a technical growing specialist with a bachelor’s in horticulture from a university of applied sciences with specialisation in plant cultivation, ideally!. You have considerable experience in plant cultivation, preferably the (flower) seed production. You are competent in the use and settings of climate control and irrigation systems such as Hoogendoorn (isii) and/or Priva. You have knowledge and experience of technical installations in modern production greenhouses. Your style of working focuses on working together and you solve problems by analysing the situation, working systematically, and using your inventiveness. You will also be able to improvise if the circumstances so require, and you keep an eye on the details. It goes without saying that your English is more than good and you are interested and have respect for the local employees, population and their culture. Considering the location of our company, you are prepared to live and work on the farm in the vicinity of Arusha in Tanzania.
