With schools, restaurants, and hotels having to close down over the lockdown period, the Veg Power group has received reports of a risk of local seasonal vegetables destined for the food services sector going to waste, while other veg is in short supply. You cannot make it up…
To respond to this risk, Veg Power is looking to mobilize food writers, chefs, nutritionists, and other food system influencers to advocate seasonal veg on their blogs, tweets and press activities. This means encouraging eating of seasonal veg this summer, in particular: asparagus, tomatoes, cucumbers, and mushrooms, as well as salad leaves, courgettes, spinach, radishes and beetroot.
Collectively there is then the potential to reach millions, and if we all unify around a simple hashtag we can amplify that message through the summer months. Together we can swing people’s choice towards the wonderful veg coming into season, support the frontline food heroes working hard to bring their crops to our tables and do our bit to reduce waste during the pandemic.
We have secured Dan Parker of Veg Power to talk through with us the importance of the #SeasonalVeg campaign. We want to see if we can assist Dan and his team create this much needed change to stop great veg being wasted that was destined for food service and get it redirected into the British homes for us all to make amazing fresh food.
On the webcast we also have Julie Cleijne, the Founder of Sustainable Kitchen, cooking live with seasonal veg to show us all how it can be done!
Let’s see if we can get the British household to come up trumps on such an important initiative & to support #SeasonalVeg
