Crop Manager wanted for UK’s largest grower of Vegetables
Our client is a leading supplier of Fresh Brassica to major UK retailers, Foodservice, Export, Processing and wholesale. Based near Boston, they are recognised as one of the most progressive vegetable suppliers in the UK committed to investing in its staff equipment and innovation. Due to continued expansion and restructuring in their farming operations, they now have an exciting new opportunity for a CROP MANAGER.
The successful applicant will assist in the management of over 11,000 acres of production with predominantly brassicas, potatoes and cereal crops. Reporting to the Head of Farming on a day to day basis, the applicant would be based at in North Boston working with the existing production team in North and South Lincolnshire and Cornwall, your duties will include:
• Crop husbandry including
• Cultivations and bed preparation
• Mechanical weeding and pest control
• Working with our in-house agronomist to produce crops to the point of harvest
• Health & Safety
• Staff Management
• Planning and record keeping on Gatekeeper and other IT systems
We are looking for candidates who have previous experience of working in commercial horticulture. You must be familiar with fresh produce, experience in field scale veg would be ideal. You will be an excellent communicator and be able to motivate a team. You will have experience in managing large teams during peak periods. You will have good IT skills and be able to use packages such as Gatekeeper and Excel as well as being familiar with machine telematics and have a positive approach to new technology and automation. Although not essential the Ideal candidate will have formal qualifications relating to agriculture such as HND or higher as well as BASIS and FACTS.
