Responsibilities:
As the Growing Manager, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of crop production, from planning and cultivation to harvest and post-harvest activities. Your key duties will include:
- Developing and implementing strategic plans for crop production, considering market demands, seasonality, and sustainability objectives.
- Overseeing the entire growing process, including soil preparation, planting, irrigation, pest and disease control, fertilization, and crop rotation.
- Monitoring crop health and growth, identifying issues or risks, and implementing timely solutions.
- Managing and supervising a team of farm workers, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Collaborating with other departments, such as sales and logistics, to ensure efficient operations and timely delivery of products.
- Maintaining accurate records of production activities, including yields, expenses, and quality control measures.
Staying updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to drive innovation and productivity.
Requirements:
To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Proven experience in crop production management, majoring in the fresh produce industry.
- In-depth knowledge of crop cultivation techniques, soil management, pest and disease control, and irrigation systems.
- Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to effectively manage a diverse team.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and certifications related to food safety and sustainability.
- Proficiency in using farm management software and tools for data analysis.
- An understanding of farming/growing in Spain/Portugal.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); knowledge of Portuguese is beneficial.
