This is a new position and will focus on developing and delivering laboratory- and field-based experiments using a wide range of analytical equipment within the Agri-EPI ‘Food Lab’. You’ll be involved in a variety of laboratory-based investigations within biological, chemical, and life science areas. This will include sampling, testing, measuring, recording, and analysing results. Your job is to provide all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively, while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines.
The successful applicant will play a pivotal and autonomous role in delivering R&D projects for agricultural clients across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and driven Technician with a proven background in analytical experimentation to join a reputable and growing business. On-the-job training will be provided for using more niche equipment.
DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Construct, maintain and operate technical equipment
Collect and prepare specimens and samples
Perform laboratory or field-based tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations
Use a wide range of lab-based and field-based (mobile) technical equipment machinery to perform tests
Report into the Head of Delivery on further development needs within the Food Lab
Use complex computer programs to analyse and interrogate results
Presenting experiment results (recording and interpreting results to share with non-technical and technical colleagues and clients)
To engage with new and existing Agri-EPI members to support the development of experimental protocol in relation to agricultural projects
To support AEC colleagues to grow the value proposition for the scientific offering within the agriculture and food sectors
To support the ‘build up’ of quotes/technical protocols for AEC’s client base
To be able to present the results in a manner that meets the needs of the client (ranging from academic research to commercial clients)
GENERAL DUTIES
The post holder is required to apply own judgement to ensure completion of tasks, guided by the framework of policies and procedures and with advice from their line manager
To ensure the performance of their duties, the post holder is required to utilise a range of electronic and communication tools and to employ a significant amount of judgement and flexibility
The post holder must use their initiative in the conduct of their work and apply sound judgement at all times to ensure that they conduct themselves within the framework of Centre policies and procedures
The post holder will perform additional duties as directed from time to time by the Head of Delivery or Chief Technical Officer
Education/ Qualifications
Educated to degree level, ideally in the sciences and/or a related technical field
Solid foundation in science subjects such as biology, physics, and chemistry
Skills/Abilities
Proficiency in calibrating and maintaining technical equipment
Knowledge of complex technical analysis
Ability to use technical equipment with maximum accuracy and efficiency
The ability to learn and follow specific scientific techniques
Excellent written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with colleagues from all parts of the organisation and to explain complex techniques to interested parties
Outstanding attention to detail
Ability to work independently
Strong time management skills
Excellent record-keeping skills, along with basic maths and computing
