As one of the four Agri-Tech Innovation Centres established as part of the UK Agri-Tech Strategy, our client is responding by driving the growth of agricultural technology. Supported by Innovate UK, they are committed to the delivery of research, development, demonstration and training in precision agriculture and engineering for the livestock, arable, horticulture and aquaculture sectors. With 25 Satellite Farms forming a network of commercial operations spanning the UK and covering all major agricultural commodities. Test-beds for research and development to aid the improvement of productivity and efficiency within the sector. The farm network measures the variances within each farming system using cutting edge precision agriculture equipment and sensors.
Our client continues to make large investments in equipment to support the development of agricultural technologies. Technical equipment owned is from the very large, fixed systems such as phenotyping gantry, to highly capable deployable systems such as spectral imagers on a UAV platform to smaller tools like RTK base stations or NDVI measurement devices.
They use this equipment alongside members within large collaborative projects, but also offer them on serviced hire basis to support their own internal developments.
This R&D equipment is largely based at their hub in Cranfield University, where they have facilities for their storage and maintenance. This hub is also available as an incubation space for agri-tech companies who need easy access to their facilities alongside the technical expertise of researchers at Cranfield University. Some of these systems are also deployed nationally across their farm network.
Our client requires a new member of staff to be based at Cranfield University to help manage their fleet of sensors and platforms based there and across the farm network. This staff member will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment is in working order, monitored and ready to deploy right across the UK, alongside supporting companies in accessing facilities at Cranfield.
There will also be the chance to be deeply involved in some exciting projects with members, working with the team to get the most out of the research facilities.
The person we are looking for is genuinely enthusiastic about the potential for technology to improve agriculture. They will have had prior experience working with and maintaining a range of sensor, UAV and robotic systems and would relish the opportunity to work with a very high capability set of systems. They will also be very organised with a high attention to detail, able to monitor a complex set of equipment.
