Soft Fruit Agronomist – Protected Strawberry Production

Lincolnshire Based
Excellent Salary & Benefits
A specialist strawberry agronomy role. Serious scale. And the opportunity to take full agronomic responsibility for a substantial protected cropping operation.
Redfox Executive Selection has been engaged to identify an experienced Soft Fruit Agronomist for a highly progressive UK agricultural business based in Lincolnshire.
This is a full-time role focused entirely on agronomy and crop walking, supporting an impressive hectarage of glasshouse strawberry production alongside an additional substantial unit of tunnel production.
For someone who genuinely understands protected strawberry production, this represents an excellent opportunity to take ownership of the agronomic performance of a significant commercial crop.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Agronomy and working closely alongside the Strawberry Growing Manager, you will take full responsibility for strawberry agronomy across the site.
Your remit will include:
- Full agronomic responsibility for the strawberry crop
- Regular crop walking across glasshouse and tunnel production
- Developing and implementing crop protection strategies
- Strong emphasis on Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
- Effective utilisation of biological controls alongside conventional crop protection
- Fertiliser and crop nutrition planning
- Responsibility for agricultural chemical and fertiliser purchasing
- Monitoring crop health, pest and disease pressures and nutritional performance
- Using crop data and observations to drive agronomic decisions
- Working collaboratively with growing, technical and operational colleagues
- Maintaining a strong focus on crop quality, yield, sustainability and commercial performance
Who Are We Looking For?
We are particularly interested in speaking with individuals who have hands-on commercial experience of strawberry production within glasshouse and/or tunnel systems.
You will need strong technical agronomy knowledge combined with the confidence to take responsibility for decision-making within a large-scale commercial operation.
Just as importantly, our client is looking for a genuine team player.
You will be working alongside experienced growing and agronomy colleagues, so the ability to communicate clearly, challenge constructively and build strong relationships at every level of the business will be essential.
Experience and knowledge of IPM and biological crop protection programmes will be particularly important.
Why Consider It?
This isn’t a role where agronomy forms a small part of a wider operational position.
Agronomy is the job.
You’ll be focused on the crop, walking it regularly, understanding what it is telling you and making the technical decisions required to maximise its performance.
You’ll also be joining a substantial, progressive agricultural business able to offer an excellent overall employment package, including company performance-related bonus, pension and healthcare benefits.
If strawberries, protected cropping and serious commercial agronomy are your world, we’d very much like to hear from you.
