Our client are on a mission to tackle the greatest challenge of our time: climate change. They are a fast-growing for-profit business that is already one of the biggest carbon removal companies in the world. But this is only the start – they have ambitious plans aligned with great funding, excellent people and an inclusive team. You too could make your mark and be part of something huge.
Everything our client does is designed to maximise the amount of carbon dioxide they can take out of the atmosphere, and maximise the benefit to the environment. Any land that they buy they restore using a combination of reforestation, natural regeneration, and regenerative agriculture practices. They then co-deploy reforestation with two further technologies, biochar and enhanced weathering, to increase the amount of carbon they can sequester per hectare of land by up to 10 times.
Enhanced weathering takes advantage of the natural process of chemical weathering of rocks, and simply speeds it up. When rain falls through the atmosphere it reacts with CO2 and becomes slightly acidic. When it falls onto rocks, the rock then reacts to it and binds some of the CO2 either as stable carbonates which will reach the ocean and stay suspended or as a solid mineral. It stays locked up this way for 100,000+ years. Our client will crush basalt rocks into dust and spread it over agricultural land and forests. It is beneficial to the soil, and it also binds CO2 whenever it rains, essentially permanently removing that CO2 from the atmosphere.
