A leader specialising in the Controlled Environment Agriculture sector with key expertise in the hydroponic production of Leafy Salads and Herbs.
Having graduated from the University of Reading with a first class degree in Horticulture, this individual has spent his career since based on the South Coast of the UK producing crops ranging from Protected Ornamental plants such as Poinsettia, Hydrangea, and Lavender to Herb crops including Basil, and a large range of Lettuce crops. Much of his time was spent developing Hydroponics cropping systems for Lettuce and Herb products, Agronomy, crop scheduling and operational budgeting, whilst operating major Glasshouse Lettuce and Herb production facilities across the South Coast of England, supplying major UK retailers such as Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.
A keen focus throughout this time was to ensure that crop production and operational efficiencies were sought and executed, whilst also developing new scale facilities to deliver greater savings. This included a lot of time and focus on all aspects of business and project planning, starting at Land Search, through to working with a team of professionals to deliver planning permission for projects. Over this period, a significant experience was gained being involved with a large planning appeal.
He has led communications across all levels within large retail customers, and has been involved directly with technical and commercial projects, including NPD, Nutritional development work and EPD, leading to receiving an award from Sainsburys for Innovator of the Year in 2017.
Having built up experience and contacts across the horticultural industry, he became a non-executive director for a large Horticultural Supplier based on the South Coast. Spending over 10 years in the role, during which time the board oversaw some of the largest changes in the organisation’s history, culminating in a sale of the company to the senior management backed by a Private Equity investor.
All of the experiences and work over the last 20 years has led to becoming a well-respected individual, often highlighted for his enthusiasm, strategic vision, technical competence with an excellent knowledge of the latest growing techniques and technologies.
