An established, family-run business with a strong heritage and reputation for excellence is seeking an experienced Growing Manager to lead its farm operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially aware and hands-on horticultural professional to take ownership of crop production and retail delivery within a thriving farm environment.
The Role
The Growing Manager will be responsible for the planning, production, and retail of a diverse range of fruit, vegetable, and flower crops. These are sold directly through a Pick Your Own offering as well as supplied to an on-site farm shop and restaurant.
The role also includes full operational oversight of the farm estate, machinery, staffing, and financial performance, ensuring efficiency, profitability, and high standards across all areas.
Key Responsibilities
Farm & Production Management
- Plan and oversee the production of over 30 crop varieties of fruit, vegetables and flowers
- Manage Pick Your Own operations and retail supply
- Maintain the farm estate, including land, buildings, drainage, and grazing areas
- Oversee maintenance and replacement of machinery and workshop equipment
- Source and purchase inputs such as fertilisers, pesticides, plants, and packaging
Commercial & Financial Management
- Develop and manage departmental budgets
- Monitor stock control, valuations, and cost efficiency
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability and reduce costs
- Achieve sales and margin targets through effective resource management
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, manage, and motivate production teams
- Lead performance management, training, and development initiatives
- Foster a positive, high-performing team culture
- Delegate effectively and ensure clear communication of expectations
Customer & Strategic Focus
- Ensure excellent customer experience to encourage repeat visits
- Act on feedback to drive continuous improvement
- Monitor retail and horticultural trends to inform long-term planning
Administration & Compliance
- Liaise with internal departments to coordinate supply
- Manage operational documentation including orders, stock sheets, and timesheets
- Ensure compliance with health & safety standards and relevant legislation

- Strong horticultural knowledge with relevant practical experience
- Proven background in retail or farm management within a busy environment
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams
- Commercial awareness with the ability to manage budgets and drive performance
- Good IT and retail system skills
